Getting started

When are classes?

Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6 AM, 9:30 AM, noon, 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30 PM. Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 AM, noon (optional), 4, 5 and 6 PM. Saturday at 7:30 and 8:30 AM. Sunday at 2 PM is the Sweat Session. A mobility class is coming soon. Each class runs about an hour.

Will I start using kettlebells right away?

No. New members complete 3–5 intro lessons first, focused on alignment and body conditioning. Weight is added only once you move correctly. If you have trained with kettlebells before, you just need to show correct alignment and handling before joining class.

I'm out of shape. Should I start with something else first?

No. Everyone starts with beginner conditioning, and James gives you homework between lessons to build you up.

Do I need to buy my own kettlebells?

No. All equipment is provided. Just bring your energy and dedication.

Classes

What happens in a typical class?

About 10 minutes of mobility work, a demonstration of the workout, 35–40 minutes of training, then about 10 minutes of cool-down and stretching. Stretching outside class is encouraged too.

Is the routine the same every class?

No. Every class is a different routine, planned around muscle groups and function.

Are classes only kettlebells?

Kettlebells are the main focus, but classes also use bodyweight and other functional exercises for well-rounded strength and conditioning.

Safety

Is there a risk of injury?

As with any resistance training, yes. The risk is small when the movements are taught correctly and you show proper technique, and safety is our top priority.

Who should not do kettlebells?

If you have a heart condition, significant spinal degeneration or another major spine or heart condition, see your doctor before starting.

Can people with arthritis do kettlebells?

Possibly. It depends on where the arthritis is and how severe it is. Check with your doctor first.

Can children and seniors use kettlebells?

Often, yes. Kids who can control their bodies and follow directions can take part. Anyone who can show body control with instruction and has enough range of motion without real pain can train. A simple movement screen helps us decide.

About kettlebells

What's so great about kettlebells?

You can use them for fast, ballistic movements or slow, grinding strength work, and switch easily between the two. Their shape works with your joints' natural patterns, which can mean less wear over time. We train strength and flexibility equally.

How do kettlebells improve flexibility?

Every movement uses a full range of motion, and the ballistic positions are especially good for hamstring flexibility.

Isn't it just like lifting weights?

The load is similar, but most weight training happens in one plane and can tighten tendons and wear on certain joints. Kettlebell training mixes tension, ballistic power and relaxation in each movement, which builds better balance and coordination.

Are kettlebells good for basketball players and other athletes?

Yes. They build core, leg and back strength and develop the hip power behind fast acceleration. They suit nearly every athlete.

Why did James choose kettlebells?

He found they improved strength and flexibility more than any other method he had used, without injuries. More research convinced him to make them the center of his training.

What does RKC mean?

RKC (Russian Kettlebell Certification) is a demanding certification with strict standards for alignment and body control. RKC instructors are part of a worldwide community that shares knowledge and support.

How long have kettlebells been around?

About 300 years, making them one of the oldest forms of structured strength training.
